Older homes, older crawl spaces
Many Headland homes near the town square were built decades before vapor barriers and sealed crawl spaces were common. We often find bare dirt, original wood piers, failing insulation and moisture-stained framing. Newer homes on the edge of town have their own issues, like torn builder-grade plastic and missing vent seals.
- Musty smells and humid indoor air
- Mold and mildew on joists and subfloor
- Sloping or bouncy floors
- Wood rot at the sill plate
- Old fiberglass insulation falling to the ground
Headland crawl space services
- Encapsulation: a reinforced liner on the ground and walls, sealed vents, an insulated door and a dehumidifier
- Vapor barriers: 12 to 20 mil, taped and fastened
- Dehumidifiers: commercial-grade, drained outside
- Mold treatment: cleaning and protecting affected wood
- Floor and joist repair: steel posts, sistered joists and beam replacement
- Insulation: removal of wet batts and proper wall insulation
Protecting historic homes
Older homes deserve careful work. We take extra care around original framing, lift sagging floors slowly to protect plaster and trim, and explain each step before we start.
Fast scheduling
Because Headland is only about 15 minutes from Dothan, we can often inspect within a day or two, which helps if you are under contract on a sale. We also serve Abbeville, Newville and the rest of Henry County.
